My new favorite thing to draw is collars. I've also been doing a lot of drawings of people looking up and views looking up from under the head. It's difficult to get right because of the foreshortened perspective. All the relationships between facial features change drastically from looking straight on. Looking up also emphasizes different shapes of the landscape of the head, making it feel like it's a completely different form, almost. 8.5'' x 11''

I really liked how the edge of this page was all folded up. It was the last page of a notebook. The figure drawing I started with didn't turn out so great, but I was happy with the face I did in permanent marker on top of it. It saved a really cool piece of paper. 8.5'' x 11''.

Ballpoint pen is especially nice for getting loose line work. It flows really well.

I like to use a loose line. I've heard it called "travelling lines" which are lines drawn as a sort of searching for the right line. This type of drawing is also used in prelimary stages for working out composition and design. I like drawing like this as preliminary searching and for their own right. It's got a lot of vitality and personality. Giacometti comes to mind. I think also, there is a heavy influence from the look of wire frames used in computer graphics. 5.5'' x 8.5''.

This is a sketch of a dog I did, from life, in a cafe. I never used to be into animals. But I recently studied with a professor who specialized in animal illustration whose interest in animals has influenced me. Also, a former girlfriend had the greatest, most lively Cairn. She was also into Pokemon, which I think is a lot about harmony with the animal world. Franz Marc, expressionist painter also comes to mind. Around 5.5'' x 8.5''.

This and the last (girl) I consider drawings, because I more or less just work from imagination and inspiration.  The originals are both about 9'' x 12''.

Permanent markers are so non-archival, but I love using them. It's important to document them early before they start to corrode, though I think they look interesting then too. I guess they sort of have a short life cycle. There's something very punk about that.

These works are sometimes like performances, but mostly like breathing. It's wha t I do naturally.
