the humorousness of the weird in realistic work and vice versa

In a realistic setting, in a movie or comic for instance, fantastic and magical elements (characters, events) provide sharp contrast and often provide humor in weirdness.

In a fantastic setting, a dose of the mundane can provide that contrast and humor, because the magical and otherworldly is a given in the universe.

I'm watching Takashi Miike's Yakuza apocalypse and that movie is what inspired this insight. You think you have a Scorsese style Yakuza film, then come in these fantastic elements, which are funny at time for their weirdness.

Then an example of the opposite, is the scene from the Star Wars the Last Jedi, when a scene of what appears to be a landing aircraft is revealed to be the automated steam pressing uniforms.
