what's one obstacle you’d like to overcome that could take your teaching ability to the next level?

Perfectionism. Perfectionism manifesting as procrastination. I want the perfect idea. I want to make something as good as the best, but I know I'm not there yet. I want it to be easy and effortless. I need to remind myself becoming a better teacher is learning a new skill in itself, and that will take time; time spent being less than great. That creating classes is an iterative process. I need to just keep writing and editing and shooting and editing some more. Also, that it's not just about being great, but providing value to potential students, who will be enriched by it, as I have been by other teachers.

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it."-Mahatma Gandhi It's personal. It's private. And it's no one's business but yours. You may be planning a political campaign, discussing your taxes, or having a secret romance. Or you may be communicating with a political dissident in a repressive country. Whatever it is, you don't want your private electronic mail (email) or confidential documents read by anyone else. There's nothing wrong with asserting your privacy. Privacy is as apple-pie as the Constitution. The right to privacy is spread implicitly throughout the Bill of Rights. But when the United States Constitution was framed, the Founding Fathers saw no need to explicitly spell out the right to a private conversation. That would have been silly. Two hundred years ago, all conversations were private. If someone else was within earshot, you could just go out behind the barn and have your conversation there. No ...

"You can be decent and gifted at the same time" ???

I've held this belief, that you could be gifted and decent (and also implied successful)... but I'm starting to think you really can't. Is being decent tantamount to submerging your gifts? Actually, it depends on what you think of as gifted. I'd speculate that Steve Wozniak had a higher IQ than Steve Jobs, but that Steve Jobs may had other personality traits that made him difficult. I think to be a good businessperson / marketer, one's IQ needs to be in the range of one's customers and employees, say +- 30 IQ points. Beyond that, you're out of touch. The average customer might be in the 100 range and engineers 120 - 160 range. So Jobs would probably be around 130 / 140. It seems like a lot of what seems exceptional about Jobs, for example his perfectionism, are common traits among the gifted. The thing is, Hollywood and media in general is made for 100 IQ range, so it may portray gifted behavior as abnormal (which it is). But to be successfu...
Being Popular vs Social Status: Why Society is Obsessed with Being Liked

I wonder if popularity in high school follows a normal distribution, similar to IQ or say athletic ability. If so, 5% of people felt they were popular in high school. That's 2 standard deviations from the norm, or an equivalent IQ of 125. So, a kind of popularity genius in a way. It makes sense that they would be toxic to other people, in a similar way to how high IQ people may not be able to relate well with others. High IQ, gifted people seem to fundamentally think differently than others, so I wonder if these high popularity / status seekers similarly are fundamentally different kind of people. Perhaps some people are more attuned to popularity or value it more than others. In high-school, I don't think I was even aware of popularity as something to be valued (perhaps explaining why I wasn't popular). Whereas I did value academic and athletic achievement. Like getting A's and winning matches were really important, but how popular wasn't even on my radar. It make...

https://www.iqcomparisonsite.com/Occupations.aspx I think a problem I'm having with jobs and perhaps why I jump around so much or only do part time jobs, is because I'm not well suited intellectually to most of them. The only jobs that even include my IQ are the Natural science, legal, medical or college professor. Creative jobs top out around 125. Even engineering or computers don't hit 130. So of the top IQ jobs, what could I do? Well, I've explored legal, medical and professor and they're not really for me... but I don't know anything about natural science. Like what kind of jobs are they? But it's something worth exploring.

Time = Money = Stuff = Time = Money = Life = Time = Happiness = Life I'm feeling overwhelmed. By all the things I want to do, need to do. Why do I need to do want to do / need to do anything? Because I feel I'm not good enough? I just want more? It's an instinctive drive? I'm interested in everything. I want to do and be everything. I wish I had less stuff. I wish I had more time. But why? What would I do with more time? Well, read everything. Currently, I'm interested in Physics and IT. Learning Korean. But I have this dream, goal of becoming a professional comic artist / musician... But they are getting in the way of me diving fully into Korean, physics and IT. But comics, music, they have been with me. I love them, as weird as that sounds. It takes a ton of time to make music. Even more to make comics. What I'm really coming to terms with is the emotional aspect of the tradeoffs I'm faced with. Often before, I might only consider the pos...
the main difference between the 3 Star Wars trilogies

There's a distinct character and difference in main focus for each other the three Star Wars trilogies: The original trilogy is focused on characters. Here are developed the iconic characters of the series, who become the focal point of the Star Wars universe. The prequel is mainly focused on world building. There is greater emphasis on establishing the worlds, cultures and races of the Star Wars universe, building around the characters established in the original trilogy. The sequel trilogy is focused on plot. With the world and characters established, the sequel movies are all about developing the story with plot twists, with most of the world and characters established in the previous movies. Was this an intentional progressive development? It makes a lot of sense looking at the entire saga in retrospect.

I've hit a minimalizing / decluttering roadblock

In my quest to minimize. I've hit a roadblock. What's left are my computer and peripherals, art supplies, art books, comics, music equipment and business books. And the reason why I've held onto these things is because I still see myself as a artist and musician. Which I am, but also, am not, professionally am not that is. Also, I see myself as a business person, who one day will be a successful business person. I just finished watching "The Founder" and the bit about persistence really resonated with me. It's a quote I remember from my high school football days. It was written on a pregame schedule. Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. - Calvin Coolidge These things I'm holdin...
